Rufus Lavon Hunt, 88, passed away on Saturday, January 26, 2013 in Greenville, Texas. Rufus was born April 1, 1924 to Sidney and Pearl Hunt in Quinlan, Texas. Rufus met and later married Vaudrene Smith in December, 1953. To this union were born two sons, Andrew Lavon and Timothy Carlton. Rufus served his country proudly and with distinction in both the United States Army and the United States Air Force for twenty years. His tenure included service both in World War II and the Korean Conflict. Rufus is preceded in death by his parents, Sidney and Pearl; his beloved wife, Vaudrene; brothers, Mascal, Orlin, Paul, and Leon; sisters, Irene, Lois, Ava and Lillian; as well as his daughter-in-law, Penny Hunt. He is survived by his sons: Andrew Hunt and his wife Deana and Timothy Hunt; grandchildren, Luke, Ashley and her husband William, Summer, Blake, Jeff, Kevin and Brett; great-grandchildren, Madison, Audrey, Lacey and Luke II; as well as a host of friends and neighbors. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at 2 p.m. at the IOOF Cemetery in Quinlan, Texas. A gathering of friends and family will take place just prior to the service from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Rufus name to the American Heart Association.
