Rubie Jean (Pyron) Mays, age 73, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2020 at her residents in Mount Vernon, TX.
She was born in Grand Prairie, TX, Sept. 28, 1947, to Olen and Onia Pyron. Rubie attended school in Grand Prairie and raised her family there. She spent many years coaching her daughter’s softball teams and attending karate classes where occasionally Chuck Norris would pop in and give lessons to her class. Rubie also enjoyed scary movies, scratch offs, and going to the casino. She was a loving and devoted mother, and nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents Olin and Onia Pyron; brothers, Raymond Pyron and Butch Pyron; sister, Veneda Jackson; and granddaughter, Tasha McClure.
Survived by her children, Gail and James Hawkins of Mount Vernon, TX, Kathrine and John Thomason of Sulphur Springs, TX and Eddie Ray Mays of SD; grandchildren, Quentin Mays, Ashley McClure, Patrick Mays, Randi Mays, Jessi Tracy, Brittani McClure, Jonathan Tracy, Kyle McClure, Amanda Sebring, Alania Mays, Landon Mays, James Hawkins Jr., Garrett Hawkins, Logan Hawkins, and Layla Hawkins; brothers, Steve Pyron of Ft. Stockton and David Pyron of Sulphur Springs, TX; and numerous great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, Nov. 6, 2020 at Lakeside Memorial Park in Quinlan.
