Nancy Nioka Lahr, age 67, of Quinlan passed away on Friday, October 29, 2021. She was born in Seymour, Texas and raised in Oak Cliff. She moved around a bit before settling in Seagoville from 1987 to 2004; then she moved to Quinlan.
Nancy loved children. She was the oldest of four girls and helped raise her siblings. She raised two kids of her own, Randy and Ella Weaver, then adopted and raised two of her grandchildren, James and Dillon Lahr. Nancy was also a big part of her great-granddaughter Sarah’s life. Nancy always had time for a crying baby or an upset child, trying to put a smile on their face.
Nancy will be remembered as a kind, caring, and compassionate person who often put others’ needs ahead of her own. She volunteered at the local food pantry. She helped to collect money, food, and toys to help those in need. She will be missed by family, friends, and community. The impact she made will, however, last forever.
Nancy was taken to the emergency room on June 26th and had an emergency appendectomy. Through other testing, she was diagnosed with lung cancer on June 28th. On September 23rd she made another trip to the emergency room where they discovered more intestinal problems. She had a constant headache and testing showed two cancerous brain tumors. On September 27th, she was given six months to live. She passed away at 7:30 AM on October 29th.
Nancy met Darrell in October 1980. They quickly became best friends. On August 1st, 1984, they began to share their lives together. Through many good times and adventures, they stood the test of time. She took very good care of Darrell for 37 plus years. It was very much his pleasure to care for her in her final weeks. Dillon and Darrell were holding her hands as the good Lord called her home.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Darrell Lahr; son, Randy Weaver; daughter, Ella; grandsons, James and Dillon Lahr and Rickey and Steven Weaver; along with her granddaughters, Crysta and Brook; daughters-in-law, Hannah and Nicole, and her great-granddaughter, Sarah.
