Mary Ruth Williams Grant, 98, passed peacefully away on Friday, September 5, 2014, at her home in Caddo Mills surrounded by her family. Mary was born on September 13, 1915 to Arthur and Annie Smart in Lone Oak, Texas. Mary was fortunate to have two loves in her life; Leroy Williams and Chester "Mutt" Grant. Both have preceded her in death. Mary was a wife, mother and homemaker. She created a safe and loving home for her husband and children. For a time she worked outside the home at the Haggar Slack Company. But Mary loved children. She worked as a babysitter and helped to raise several generations of families in Hunt County. Mary was also an expert seamstress. She designed and created dresses and clothing for the young ladies around the Quinlan- Lake Tawakoni area; including beautiful prom dresses. Mary was active in the Ladies Auxiliary of the Greenville VFW and Am Vets organizations. But Mary's true passion was her family. She loved and adored her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mary's open arms, loving heart and mischievous smile will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her. Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Annie Smart; husbands Leroy Williams and Chester "Mutt" Grant; daughter Lois Hutchings; three sisters; one brother and five grandchildren. Those left to celebrate her life include her daughter, Pat Harris; brother James "Beau" Henry Smart; grandchildren, Peggy Jones, Sandra Hughes, Don Hughes, Hud Hughes and his wife Milissia; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous extended family, friends and neighbors. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Monday, September 8, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held the following day, Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. also at the funeral home.Interment will immediately follow the service at IOOF Cemetery in Quinlan, Texas.
