Martha Cannon

Martha Ann Cannon, 95 of Quinlan, Texas, passed away quietly in her sleep on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at her daughter's home in Whitesboro, Texas. Ann was born on June 4, 1916 to Sam and Lula Henderson in Kingston, Texas. She was one of six children born to Sam and Lula's family. Ann met and married Kenneth Cannon on September 24, 1932 in Durant, Oklahoma. They had two children, Bob and Donna. Ann led a very active life. She worked in Barnes Grocery Store and Smith's Cafe. She became a nanny for the children of the Chambliss and Chreen families, who loved her as one of their own. Ann also own her own business as a seamstress. She made dresses for the ladies of the community for many years. Ann also enjoyed making quilts for her grandchildren as they were added to her expanding family. Ann's family was her greatest joy and treasure. Ann was a member of the First Baptist Church of Quinlan since 1929. Ann's church and her faith in Christ was her passion. Her church family was very dear to her. When Ann became unable to attend church, she was regularly visited by members of her Sunday School Class and others members of her church. Ann had a special bond with her church sisters, Iva Lee Smith and Jacque Cobb. These three ladies were always thought of together and usually mentioned in the same breath. They proved to be inseparable and always watched out for each other. Ann was famous for her pecan pies. Her pies could always be found at social events, community socials and church outings. Her smile; her laughter; her singing; her prayers and her pies will be missed in this community by her family, her church and her friends. Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Lula Henderson; her brothers, Vernon and Howard; her sisters, Louise, Bertha and Mary; her husband, Kenneth Cannon and her son and his wife, Bob Ernest Cannon, Sr. and Lou Ann Cannon. Those left to celebrate her life include her daughter, Donna Varnell and her husband Thomas; grandchildren, Kimberly and Robert Davis, Karen and Walter Kinney, Bob Cannon, Jr.,Lori and Todd Cassidy, and John and Linda Boysen; great-grandchildren,Roger and Stacey Coleman, Melissa and Patrick Carlow, Hunter Boysen, Abigail and Alyssa Cannon; great-great-grandchildren, Kaitlin and Chris Beadle, Jassmin and Riley Carlow; and great-great-great-grandchildren, Berlin and Thatcher Beadle. A gathering of family and friends will take place on Monday, April 2, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Quinlan Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will immediately follow the service at the IOOF Cemetery in Quinlan, Texas.
