Laura Marie Thomas; 55, passed away Friday, March 29, 2013 in Fort Worth, Texas. Laura was born December 24, 1957 to Russell and Roselyn Heebner in Weymouth, Massachusetts. Laura worked for several years at the Dallas County Sheriffs Department. Beginning as a jailer, Laura rose through the civilian ranks to Sergeant and later became the first female civilian to reach the rank of Lieutenant. Laura would later change career paths entering the medical profession a Licensed Vocational Nurse. She would work in various aspects of the medical field including doctors offices and rehabilitation centers. Lauras professional life always focused on her desire to help others. She was a loving heart and a giving spirit. She will truly be missed by all those who knew her. Laura is preceded in death by her father, Russell and her brother, Eric Heebner. Those left to celebrate her life include her husband, James Thomas; sons, Christopher Thomas and his wife Gerlen, Alan Thomas and his wife Connie, and Chad Thomas; daughters, Rachel Walker and her husband Brandon, Monica Thomas and Amber Smith and her husband Jesse; fourteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; mother, Roselyn Heebner; brothers, Jimmy Heebner and his wife Phyllis and Kurt Heebner; sister Joanne Fuentes; as well as numerous other extended family, friends and neighbors. A Celebration of Life will be held for Laura on Friday, April 5, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Keystone Bible Church, 1016 Pioneer Road, Mesquite, Texas.
