Johnnie DeMar

Johnnie DeMar, 81, of West Tawakoni passed away on June 12, 2017 in the comfort of her home with her loving family beside her. Johnnie was born on October 7, 1935 in Adair County, Kentucky to Chester A. Gowen and Mary Ruby (Brummett) Gowen.

Johnnie will be remembered for her support for her community and inspiration to start the West Tawakoni Volunteer Fire Department. She was patriotic and involved with the West Tawakoni VFW, American Legion, and any benefit that they had by working and giving monetary support.

Johnnie is preceded in her death by her first husband, Raymond DeMar; her parents, Chester A. and Mary Ruby Gowen; her children, Nanette LaDonna DeMar, Doreen Rae Detmar, and William Robert DeMar; three brothers, Kenneth Gowen, Pete Gowen, and Richie Gowen.

Her family that is cherishing the memories of her life are her husband, William Burton; her step-son, Billy Burton and his wife Tammy; grandchildren, Jeffrey Burton and his wife Amanda, Joshua Burton and his wife Ashli, and Brandon DeMar; six great grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Hundley and Marty McGrath; one brother, Roger Gowen; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of Quinlan Funeral Home. The family is requesting that donations be made in memory of Johnnie to Vitas Healthcare Hospice. Their address is 8585 N. Stemmons Freeway, Dallas, Texas 75247.
