James Flynn Havens, 58, previously of Quinlan, passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2015 in Lubbock, Texas. James was born on December 21, 1956 to Grady and Edna Havens in Fort Worth, Texas. James was a colorful character who never met a stranger. He lived to love and laugh. James had a wicked sense of humor and an endless supply of stories and jokes; as well as a great storyteller. James was also very talented. He could draw and sketch; play the guitar and piano. He did Elvis impersonations and even sang and played the bass guitar in a band called "Jericho Country" in the late 1970s. James was also a "jack of all trades". Over the course of his life, James had been a disc jockey, truck driver, volunteer fireman, police department dispatcher, mortician, funeral assistant and director. James was also a proud Mason. But James' greatest passion was for his family. He loved his children and grandchildren and was proud of all his family. James loved people. He loved life. He had a compassionate heart and giving spirit. His is a spirit that will truly be missed by all who knew him. James is preceded in death by his parents, Grady and Edna Havens; brother, Jerry Havens and nephew, Aaron Havens. Those left to celebrate his life include his son, Jason Havens and his wife Brandy Wilson; daughters, Andria Smith and her husband, Jeremy, Stacy Davy; grandchildren, Brooklin Smith, Ashtin Smith, Callaway Smith, Kyle Havens; brothers, Grady Havens, Jr. and his wife Katheryn, Cramer Havens and his wife Debbie, Richard Havens and his wife Diana and Randell Havens; sister, Sandy Kelsey and her husband Frank; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, extended family, friends and neighbors. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held the following day, Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. also at the funeral home. The interment will immediately follow the service at IOOF Cemetery in Quinlan, Texas.
