George Smith Gerlach died in his home of natural causes on Wednesday, April 18th, 2012. He was surrounded by his family. George was born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1934 to Arrena Smith Gerlach and Fritz Gerlach. He received his M.S. in Geophysics from Washington University and worked in that field for over 40 years. George spent his adult life living in both the Dallas and Houston areas. George was married to the love of his life, Jerry Pate Gerlach, for over 26 years. Out of all of the accomplishments in his life, George was most proud of his family, which includes both relatives and very close friends. Georges family picked several words to describe him; sentimental, a fighter, patriotic, opinionated, nostalgic, correct (always), persistent and wise. George was a very loving husband and father and is already missed by so many of the people that he touched. George was preceded in death by his sister-in-law Hannelore Gerlach. George is survived by his wife Jerry Pate Gerlach, his daughter and son-in-law Mary Gerlach and Wence Magari, his son and his family George Gerlach, II, Amy Gerlach, Nick and Krystin Gerlach, Colton Gerlach, and Sadie Gerlach, and his brother John Gerlach and his family Alexis Gerlach, Charles Letourneau and Tristan Letourneau. In lieu of flowers the family recommends donations to your local animal shelter
