Don McElroy, 78, of Forney, TX, passed away on Monday, March 15, 2021 in the peace of his home. Donald Bruce McElroy was born on December 16, 1942 in Waxahachie, TX, the son of Jerry Lloyd McElroy, Sr. and Nada Ruth (Lewis) McElroy. He married Linda Janelle Glisan on June 9, 1962 in Dallas, TX at Rosemont Christian Church. He was a successful salesman in the printing industry. Don loved and respected the military, had a love of airplanes and machinery, and studied WWII with a passion. His friends called him "the general," though he often said he couldn't measure up to those who actually served. With a passion for creativity and design, he loved to build and create things. Anyone who met him gained a new friend. He maintained friendships from grade school to his last breath, and was admired, respected, and loved by too many to count, across continents. His joyful spirit, smile, and fun-loving ways were infectious. The "good Lord," as he would say, was very good to him, and he lived his life, being the hands, heart, listening ear, provider, and feet of Jesus, as he lived his life, though imperfect, with confidence in his savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. Adventure was something he was always ready for and enjoyed. He loved music, people, and the joy of family and friends coming together. His greatest achievement in life, was being a devoted and loving son, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, as well as uncle, and surrogate father to many.
Don is preceded in his death by the love of his life, his wife, Janelle McElroy; his parents, Jerry and Ruth McElroy; his siblings, Jerry Jr., Mike and Martha McElroy.
Don is survived by his daughters, Kimberly Diane Buttram and her husband John, and Erin McElroy; aunt, Barbara Hodges; grandchildren, Kathryn Wilde, Sarah Gilbert and her husband Tanner, Nicholas Buttram and his wife Brittany, and Zachary Buttram; ten great grandchildren; a long list of nieces, nephews, and friends; and grand dogs, Lacy and Bella.
